KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.Vladimir Putin took part in the first Russia-ASEAN summit.

During a working breakfast summit participants examined a wide range of international problems, in particular the situation in the Middle East.

Vladimir Putin discussed the issue of pollution in the Amur River with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. At a meeting with journalists the Russian head of state said that Russia and China have agreed to work together to eliminate the consequences of the ecological catastrophe and to coordinate their future efforts to protect the environment.

After the working breakfast a photography session for the heads of state and government of the countries participating in the Russia-ASEAN summit took place. Afterwards, the summit participants met for the first session. The discussion's main theme was regional and international cooperation.

The Russian President also met the Malaysian candidates for a flight to the International Space Station. The Prime Minister of Malaysia and the General Director of Malaysia's National Space Agency also took part in the meeting.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.Russian President and heads of state members of ASEAN adopted the Joint Declaration on the Development of a Universal Partnership.

Russia and ASEAN states confirmed that they are committed to further developing multilateral interaction and cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual benefits and a shared responsibility for promoting peace, stability, security and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The declaration provides that regular summits will take place in the future between Russia and ASEAN. In addition, summit participants welcomed the decision by Economic Ministers of ASEAN states to establish a mechanism whereby senior Russian officials and ASEAN will consult on economic issues.

Vladimir Putin and ASEAN leaders also adopted a Comprehensive Action Plan to Develop Cooperation Between the Russian Federation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2005-2015 and charged the appropriate ministers to oversee its implementation in various areas. They also charged the foreign ministers to periodically look at what progress has been made, taking into account new developments in the world and in the region.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.Vladimir Putin met with President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The President of the Philippines confirmed her intention to sign the protocol on the completion of talks regarding Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization.

The said protocol will be signed at the Sixth WTO Ministerial Conference which opened today in Hong Kong.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA. Vladimir Putin met with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Russian head of state noted the positive developments in Russian-Malaysian economic relations and expressed his confidence that the visit to Malaysia will act as a new impulse for developing mutual relations.

The President thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister for supporting Russia's candidature to be an observer at the Islamic Conference Organization.

Vladimir Putin invited the Malaysian Prime Minister to visit Russia in 2006.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi expressed the hope that Vladimir Putin's visit and his participation in the ASEAN summit will enable Russia's relations with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region to expand and take on new content.

Following the talks Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Rafidah Aziz signed a protocol on the completion of talks regarding Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization in the presence of Vladimir Putin and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.Vladimir Putin met with Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong.

The President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Singapore support increasing contacts between the two countries.

Vladimir Putin declared that Russia is interested in Singapore's experience with respect to creating free economic zones and that consultations on this issue could promote the development of bilateral cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.Vladimir Putin met with Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra.

They discussed topical issues with respect to Russian-Thai trade and economic cooperation.

Vladimir Putin declared that Russia and Thailand will expand their trade and economic cooperation and expressed his satisfaction with how relations have developed.

Russian head of state invited the King and Prime Minister of Thailand to visit Russia. Thaksin Shinawatra expressed his hope that Vladimir Putin will visit Thailand again.

Following the talks, Russian and Thai foreign ministers signed an intergovernmental agreement on reciprocal conditions for dispensing citizens of both countries from travel visas. According to this agreement, Russians in Thailand and Thai citizens in Russia will be able to stay up to thirty days without a visa.

Dr Mohamad invited Mr Putin to come to his home for a cup of tea.

Mr Putin congratulated the former Prime Minister on his birthday.
