Born in Moscow on July 11, 1958. In 1984, he graduated from the Kuibyshev Construction Engineering Institute in Moscow. Starting in 1987, he was involved in business, in particular, he organised commercial programmes for the KVN humour competitions. In 1990, he helped found advertising agency Video International. Until 1996, he worked for the RIA Novosti information agency and for television company TV-Novosti as head of the commercial section, deputy general director and general director. In 1996, he was appointed head of the Public Relations Department of the Presidential Executive Office. From 1997 to 1999, he was first deputy chairman of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Company. In July 1999, he was appointed Media Minister, and was reappointed to this post in May 2000. In April 2004, he was made Adviser to the President. Married, son and daughter. |
